The original Declaration of Independence painting by John Trumbull spread the message of a nation united; fast-forward to 2017 and the meaning of the document still holds the same. To celebrate Independence Day 2017, Ancestry and creative agency Droga5 recreated the iconic work of art to depict an even more relevant message. Each person in the re-creation is a descendant of one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence, all of whom discovered their noteworthy lineage through Ancestry.com. The campaign aims to show how diverse America has become since the early days of inception.
For the 4th of July celebration in New York City, Overall Murals painted the newly created imagery, showcasing 29 descendants of the original signers, on a large wall in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The painting also became a backdrop for the many who viewed the holiday fireworks along the river and over the New York City skyline.
