Chanel has had a special relationship with New York since Ms. Coco Chanel herself first visited the city in 1931. This December the luxury brand reinforced that bond with their Métiers d’Art 2018/2019 Paris – New York collection. Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld pays tribute to the network of Maisons d’art and manufacturers who create the signature touches of the iconic fashion House annually. This time, the event will be held in a venue befitting the art focus of the campaign, none other than the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Naturally, we were over the moon when we were tapped to paint a mural on our wall in the heart of SoHo, the preeminent fashion center of New York City, just in time for the Métiers d’Art show. The mural combines the unparalleled Chanel style with the great Franco-American symbol of fraternité, the Statue of Liberty. This illustrative mural gives lady liberty an update with the trademark tweed of the fashion house, and of course, accented with gold buttons and jewelry. The mural has the seal of approval from Mr. Lagerfeld himself.
