POSITION SUMMARY:
The NY Shop Assistant will report to the Shop Coordinator, Operations Manager and Co-Owners of the company and is responsible for maintaining the overall integrity and quality of the shop and its activities as well as projects in the field in an efficient and on-time manner. The Shop Assistant provides support and coordination of shop/warehouse projects and paint production preparation work activity taking place within the Overall Murals paint shop as well as in the field at various company job sites in NYC.
The person we seek is communicative, handy, crafty, thrives under pressure, has a logical mind set, love for organization, excellent at multitasking, tech savvy, has a passion for the mural arts industry and is willing to learn new things. The Shop Assistant is open to doing everything from low level to high level tasks.

Construction Skills - Experience in light carpentry, construction, and use of hand & power tools

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical - Experience with Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, emailing capabilities and business systems

Adobe Creative Suite and Graphic Design background

Ideally can ride a scooter or motorcycle as well as drive large commercial vehicles such as cargo vans, pick-up trucks, and box trucks

OSHA certifications and/or training

Rigging/ Scaffolding experience/ license a plus

Electrical, Plumbing or any other construction related skills

Trello or other Project Management Platform knowledge a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for supporting and managing the effective, on-time completion of daily activities required for the shop, in accordance with the project plan schedule and the company's policies and practices in a professional, productive and positive manner. The NY Shop Assistant will spend a majority of his or her time in the shop, however, since most of our work is outdoors, he or she may be required to spend time in the field as well to support the paint team with any installations, delivery runs and to make sure projects are running smoothly and efficiently. This person will support conditions of each project from start to finish to ensure that projects are completed on-time and on-budget.
Production Support - He/she works closely with the production, shop, operations teams and owners to support and manage aspects of multiple painting projects simultaneously. This person will be calm under pressure and able to work with all kinds of personalities, in a deadline driven environment.
1. Prepare, pack, and ship the materials for ongoing and upcoming projects
2. Wall preparation such as priming, graffiti maintenance, set up of scaffolding, installing scaffolding, installing physical signage and illumination, research and purchase of materials needed, etc.
3. Drive the company truck/vehicles, load/pick up and unload/drop off supplies and equipment for projects
4. Design, build and maintain work stations and workflows
5. Communicate verbally and digitally the status of tasks and projects and help manage the workflow within the shop as needed with the operations team, pre-production team and ownership
6. Develop, upgrade and maintain on-site storages and roof protections as needed
7. Train new apprentices and team members on shop practices, pre-production processes, graffiti maintenance, and any other procedures as required
8. Support the paint and production teams where and when needed
Shop Maintenance/Upgrading - The Shop Assistant will be responsible for the upkeep and development of the shop and office, maintaining and organizing them. Duties include:
1. Order / pick up supplies
2. Maintain and organize inventory
3. Keep all areas of the shop clean and organized such as building area, supplies shelves, restroom, etc. as well as trash/recycling removal on time with pick up
4. Innovate, research and execute ideas to improve efficiency and processes for mural production and the shop/office
5. Work with ownership and other team members to help develop and maintain new areas of the shop/s
6. Work with local teams in other markets (i.e. San Francisco, Atlanta, Los Angeles) to help upgrade shop/s, supplies and materials as required
7. Work with vendors to organize, maintain, repair, order, and schedule inventory of materials and supplies, equipment, lighting and other services related to the shop, production and wall upgrades and maintenance for NY shop as well as other markets
8. Assist with Warehouse renovations as required (coordinating projects, vendors, hands-on repairs and renovations in a timely and efficient manner) including building, wiring, network setup, etc.
9. Vehicle and equipment maintenance, repair and cleaning
10. Other duties as assigned

TERMS & COMPENSATION:
Salary and hours: Starts at $25 per hour. The position is full-time and eligible for benefits after 90 days of full-time status.
Flexibility required - This is a demanding position. The schedule includes early mornings, nights, weekends, some holidays and occasionally on-call

WORK CONDITIONS: (include but not limited to)
Required to occasionally work in high, precarious places using scaffolding, ladders, Scissor lifts or boom lifts or chairs. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to wet, and or humid conditions, extreme heat, vibration and inclement weather. Noise level in the work environment may be loud. The environment here is professional, fast-paced, fun, family-style and creative surrounded by a group of unique artists. There may be opportunities to travel.
