  • Gary Fernandez, BELLY FLOP

Gary Fernandez < Back BELLY FLOP Overview Service Public Art industry Art & Culture markets New York Wall(s) 1 Wall impressions Dolphins exist. If you were unaware as we were, search the term and you’ll be amazed as well as a little weirded out. However, pink dolphin unicorns may or may not be mythical creatures, as presented on massive waves with shapely lady swimmers, in Gary Fernandez’s original illustration. Abundant with lines, color and detail, the second installment of Artists Work is located near Tompkin’s Square Park. In this section of the East Village, E. 8th Street between Avenues B and C, neighborhood residents, who for the most part have lived here for nearly twenty years or more, are friends and call each other by name. Thus, the installation of the new mural stirred up conversation with neighbors alike. It was a pleasure to paint as locals thanked us for bringing this lovely image to their scenery, even requesting to paint their walls next. Previous Next

  • New Balance, MADE IN U.S.A

New Balance < Back MADE IN U.S.A Overview Service Outdoor Advertising industry New Balance markets Los Angeles Wall(s) 2 Walls impressions 1.2M When is being stuck in an elevator a good thing? When you’re in a street-level hand painted Overall Murals wallscape, in New Balance’s. The OM team used a curved wall in Silver Lake to make you look twice to convince yourself the elevator door isn’t about to close, which is the kind of thing we love at OM. Our paint team in Silver Lake and Beverly Grove wore New Balance shoes while painting, a tribute to a brand we admire. Wearing the shoes provides our clients with the opportunity for product placement while our team works on the walls, emphasizing the creative partnership that we have. In Silver Lake and Beverly Grove, motorists and pedestrians who passed the murals-in-progress saw our team painting in new - and somewhat paint-splattered - New Balance shoes. The curved Silver Lake wall seemed made for this wallscape, with the curve lending the hand-painted wood wall in which the elevator appears ensconced a three-dimensional feel, giving viewers the sense they could actually step into the elevator (though it’s a bit crowded, with a gentleman at the right rear of the car holding a small tree). The grain of the wood on either side and above the elevator is so realistic it seems it’d be cool and smooth to your touch; it’s almost impossible to resist putting your fingertips to it. What could be better for an ad campaign than great artwork on the perfect wall? It’s a group portrait painted with soul - in New Balance soles. If you’re in Silver Lake or Beverly Grove, run or walk to see another knockout OM mural. Like New Balance , this one’s a modern classic. Previous Next

SONY Pictures brought Superfly, the highly stylized 1972 film, into the 21st century. From our network of artists, Overall Murals was privileged to curate four amazing contemporary graffiti writers and illustrators to collaborate and update the Superfly style without sacrificing its iconic magic. Working closely with SONY Pictures, these artists were able to convey the graffiti and street art aesthetic in four original designs, allowing anyone who views them to have a clear idea of what it means to be Superfly. The new cinematic version is set in modern-day Atlanta, the city that artists Dubelyoo, Awe2, and Mister Totem call home. Dubelyoo’s design captures the essence of Atlanta, the skyline, and graffiti style ground the viewer in the city immediately. Totem’s design highlights the street aspects of Superfly, images of money, cars, weapons, and women are set in the foreground of this mural, contrasted with the sparsity of the background the viewer can feel the gravity of Superfly, not just the glamour. In association with an esteemed OM partner, Klughaus, the talented Awe2 created our third Atlanta mural. In this mural the main characters of Superfly light up the night sky, this etherial design includes mid-century Pointillism details which further lend an unmistakable dazzle to this mural. Also brought to us by Klughaus and also prior OM collaborator, MAST designed a Superfly wall that can be found in Harlem. The artist’s comic style of bold graphics fits in perfectly with the neighborhood of the original 1970’s film. These artists know what it means to Redefine the Hustle. Previous Next

Bulleit < Back BOURBON Overview Service Outdoor Advertising industry Alcohol markets San Francisco, New York Wall(s) 2 Walls impressions 595K+ Bulleit Bourbon has been around since 1987. Since its inception, Bulleit has secured a position as one of America's beloved craft whiskeys with a reputation of being one of the most distinctively smooth, full-bodied whiskeys around. Inspired by his great-grandfather, Thomas Bulleit concocted the high-rye bourbon in 1987. Twenty-nine years later, the Bulleit Family still carries on the brand's tradition by operating a Bulleit Experience Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. To match their clean-tasting bourbon, Bulleit debuted an outdoor advertising campaign with clean and simple lettering. • E! ENTERTAINMENT, FRONT FIVE

E! ENTERTAINMENT < Back FRONT FIVE Overview Service Outdoor Advertising, Content Creation, Paint Lab industry Entertainment markets New York Wall(s) 1 Wall impressions 518K+ New York is known as the fashion capital of the world but back in the early 1940s American fashion was the underdog to the hugely coveted and world-renowned fashion of France. During World War II American designers were finally given their chance to shine. Since France was occupied by Germany, access to French fashion was at a standstill. To showcase up-and-coming designers, one respected publicist decided to create a fashion event in New York which was originally called “Press Week”. Today, we know it as New York Fashion Week. Since its inception, NYFW has been a staple event in New York City. The fashion industry’s elite come from all over the world by invitation only to attend. With such exclusivity to what started as a means to put American fashion on the map, it’s no wonder that every periodical, media outlet and fashion blog wants to cover the event. One of the most recognized in the media frenzy is E!, the hugely popular television channel. Returning as a media partner, E!'s docuseries Front Five returned and aired for 5 days over social media platforms with 5 popular fashion influencers, to give viewers an exclusive look into all things New York Fashion Week. Overall Murals was given not only the change to than paint a teaser ad, but also do a projection mapping for all 5 days of the series. The projections showed each of the 5 hosts, designers Jason Wu, Kim Shui. Lily Aldridge, Halima Aden, and actress Luna Blaise. Lighting up the balmy late summer night, this beautiful integration of hand paint and video projecting is creativity at it's best, worth of unique New York Fashion Week. Previous Next

  • SPOTIFY, STOP AAPI HATE

SPOTIFY < Back STOP AAPI HATE Overview Service Outdoor Advertising industry Music markets New York Wall(s) 1 Wall impressions 940K+ What does it mean to paint artwork that shows support and awareness during these changing and intense times? To all of us at Overall Murals, it means everything. We have seen over the course of this year, the growing mistreatment of the Asian community. NBC News reports say there has been a 169% surge in Asian hate crimes in the past year. A problem such as this should not go unnoticed and many are speaking up. Those who are especially influential and can be vehicles for awareness must act. Violence caused by hate is ever-growing as the world spirals into further confusion and division. Through uncomfortable conversations and with support and activism, we can choose to stop the hate and look toward implementing positive growth in the world. May is Asian American Pacific Islander Cultural Heritage Month. To kick off the month with reverence and positivity for our AAPI brothers and sisters, our painters, Charlie Pratt, and Elio Martinez hung above the busy streets of Soho to hand paint this important and celebratory campaign for Spotify. The bright and bold artwork was designed by Taiwan-born, Shanghai-raised artist Jocelyn Tsaih. Jocelyn is an artist based in Oakland, California whose work typically involves amorphous figures. Jocelyn explains that the figures “act as vessels for those that view her work”. We believe a vessel is the perfect interpretation of this piece as it carries love and support to a community of people who are currently disproportionately affected by hate crimes all over the US. We are proud to have worked on a variety of murals that also draw attention to an important and relevant worldwide issue. Check out our work with DTRT, Monogram, NYC DOHM, Spotify and Instagram. Previous Next

  • Boston Greenway, DANIEL GORDON

Boston Greenway < Back DANIEL GORDON Overview Service Public Art industry Non-Profit markets Boston Wall(s) 1 Wall impressions Once again we find ourselves standing in the historic park, the Rose Kennedy Greenway of downto wn Boston in front of the 70’ x 76’ foot wall facing Dewey Square . Our team of multi-talented painters was tasked with hand painting a beautiful mural designed by New York-based artist Daniel Gordon called “Summer Still Life with Lobster and Fern ”. After years of creating this special design for this specific site, Daniel’s artwork was ready for our team to paint on the wall. Daniel was very hands-on during this process. He worked directly with the painters so they could understand his technique, craft and concept for this particular piece to ensure we translated what was in his head to the wall accurately. Gordon’s artwork involves fine tuning imagery that he finds online or from photographs he takes himself. He then prints them out on a large scale printer and creates a physical 3-D scene before using a large format camera to photograph this composition. The results. A contemporary twist on still life. There are references in the mural, like the lobster and watermelon, which were incorporated into the artwork as a tribute to the city of Boston, in which the artwork is displayed. In addition to the mural, the park is hosting a larger exhibition of Gordon’s sculptures and canvases, all of which will be up for one year. Working on a large-scale public art piece like this involves lots of planning. From our production team mixing the colors and delegating sections of the wall to the painters spending long hours translating a 24” inch printed proof to a 70’ foot wall, the entire piece start to finish is a process that keeps our team on their toes until the project is done. But art pieces like this are some of our favorite types of projects we get asked to do. As artists we are proud to work with fellow artists to create a piece that challenges the eye, brings color to a city and is, most importantly, a tribute to the neighborhood in which it lives. Adding that bit of art culture to a city wall brings pleasure to every job we do. This entire artwork took our six experienced walldogs approximately 9 days or 99 hours and a whole lot of paint and sunscreen before it was proudly displayed for all to see. Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as we enjoyed painting it. Previous Next
